Today, we welcome professor Eric Sprankle to discuss his forthcoming book, DIY: The Wonderfully Weird History and Science of Masturbation, while trying the infamous 1980s cocktail, the Screaming Orgasm, and some refreshing One-Man-Mosh Pit IPA from the always-outstanding Surly Brewing Company.
Oh, by the way: For anyone with a delicate constitution, weak intellect, and/or a low threshold for moral outrage who hasn’t figured out that an episode on a book about masturbation probably has some explicit content, a warning isn’t likely to be much help, but here it is.

DIY will challenge what you think you know about the very human need for self-pleasure. (Publisher)

- Dr. Sprankle’s followup vis-à-vis bonobos : “I couldn’t find any ultrasound evidence of bonobo masturbation in utero, unfortunately. Lots of documentation about their masturbation once they leave the womb, but nothing beforehand.”
This is clearly a new and critical research area for bonobo obstetricians. The Of Books & Booze team looks forward to their findings.

Screaming Orgasm Cocktail
1 oz Vodka
1 oz espresso or coffee liqueur
1oz amaretto
1oz Irish cream liqueur
1 oz half-and-half
1 oz whole milk
Combine ingredients in shaker half-full of ice, shake well, strain into a hurricane glass (or martini glass) with crushed ice, sprinkle with cacao powder.
It’s nothing fancy, and it’s not even an original drink, as it’s an enhanced version of the classic Orgasm cocktail. Yes, that’s right, the one served in shot glasses. Only this time some genius thought of adding a good dose of vodka, fresh cream and a little milk to transform the shot into an alcoholic milkshake with a sugary taste reminiscent of burnt bananas.
